Abstract
Seven mongrel dogs were studied before and after intravenous injection of oleic acid (0. 1 ml/kg) for the evaluation of the effect on blood gases. After measurement of arterial and mixed venous blood gases, alveolar-arterial oxygen difference (AaD02) , shunt ratio (Qs/QT) and arterial-mixed venous oxygen content difference (Ca-v02) were calculated.
Through this study, we obtained the following results.
1) Oleic acid resulted in decrease in pH significantly 30 minutes after intravenous injection.
2) Oleic acid decreased PaO2 significantly 30 minutes after intravenous injection but PaCO2 was not- decreased.
3) AaDO2 was significantly increased 30 minuted after intravenous injection of oleic acid.
4) Qs/OT was increased 1 hour after intravenous injection of oleic acid.
So we concluded that oleic acid induced ARDS apparently 1 hour after intravenous injection in dogs.
